Receives and displays merchandise, totals sales, and accepts payment from customers. Support Assistant Manager in different areas, assists customer needs with resale merchandise. Helps maintain the overall cleanliness and organization of the store.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.

Stocks shelves, counters, and/or tables with merchandise.

Sets up advertising displays or arranges merchandise on counters or tables to promote sales. Organizes and moves furniture throughout the store.

Welcomes and invites customers into stores.

Stamps, marks, or tags price on merchandise, but does not set prices of merchandise.

Answer customer's questions concerning location, price, and use of merchandise.

Totals price and discounts on merchandise purchased by customer to determine bill; makes change, and issues receipts or tickets to customers; handles customers promptly, accurately, and in a friendly manner.

Helps sort merchandise received.

Keeps counter areas and display tables clean.

Pays attention to cleanliness of the store and adheres to Opening and Closing procedures as directed.

Assists with putting clothing and “hard goods” out as needed.

Wraps or bags merchandise for customers.

Count funds accurately before and after the daily sales.

May assist the Assistant Store Manager in opening or closing procedures as needed

Assist and support the Assistant Manager in different projects as needed and directed.

Skills / Requirements

Education: Minimum high school diploma.

Experience: Minimum 6 months sales experience, preferably in a retail establishment, plus one year cash handling. Nonprofit experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities: Bilingual preferred; willingness to learn how to price store merchandise correctly and recognize quality merchandise, i.e., collectibles antiques, name brand clothing, vintage clothing, antique furniture, and bric-a-brac; good customer service skills; follow store procedures; work under fast-paced conditions; attentive to detail; prioritize effectively; effective oral and written communication skills; eagerness to learn and be trained; work both independently and as part of a team; maintain safe and clean working environment; provide information to public by answering questions and requests; regular, timely attendance.

Special License/Certification: None.

Travel/Transportation: The incumbent must travel on a regular (or periodic) basis, as the job requires. The incumbent must have reliable transportation (public transportation may be acceptable depending on the purpose of travel). If the incumbent receives authorization to use a Mission vehicle to perform duties, he or she must present a current California driver’s license and good driving record in order to be placed on the Mission’s insurance policy.
