Residential Advisor / Community Life Ambassador (Downtown)

Community Life Ambassadors services all San Diego Rescue Mission Programs and promotes community building, student/guest health, safety and accountability. Community Life Ambassadors support students/guests in their daily needs, creates a stable and safe environment necessary for a holistic approach to recovery and healing.
The Community Life Ambassador position is designed to give you an entry level opportunity to leadership in ministry. This role requires you to be outgoing and hold the ability to establish boundaries, to be solution focused, task oriented, computer literate, passionate, self-disciplined and free to implement team harmony. Key duties for CLA’s also involve tasks such as cleaning, laundry, organizing/sorting, intakes, discharges, mediation, crisis intervention, rounds, meal delivery, stripping of beds, etc. Community Life Ambassadors serve all Mission Programs and promote Student & Guest health, safety, and accountability and provide support to the Students in order to create a stable, safe environment necessary to pursue healing. This position is non-exempt and reports to the Associate Director in Nueva Vida Haven (NVH).
- To provide leadership in the facility and promote student and guest safety, while creating an environment that is trauma informed.
- To provide student/guest services and engagement through appropriate ministry and relational connection in support of maintaining program compliance.
- To provide administrative support and other documentation as needed.
- To represent our Mission, Vision and Values and continue to grow professionally and spiritually
Skills / Requirements
Education: Minimum AA Social Services, Psychology, Human Development, Ministry or related field from an accredited institution (or commensurate experience, equating to 1 year). Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience: Experience with individuals experiencing homelessness, various addiction challenges, mental illness and/or dual diagnosis (1 year is preferred). Nonprofit experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities: Calmly and sensitively employ appropriate de-escalation techniques with residents; working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook); typing (min 35 wpm); coordinate and/or direct a variety of complex tasks and assignments simultaneously and successfully; exercise good judgment and make sensible decisions; attentive to detail; prioritize effectively; effective oral and written communication skills; eagerness to learn and be trained; work both independently and as part of a team; provide information to public by answering questions and requests; regular, timely attendance.
Environment: The incumbent has a shared office that is generally clean and comfortable. It may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc. The incumbent is in a non-confined office-type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will. The incumbent works in a residential setting, which consists of individuals who may have a mental or physical disability or illness. Physical resources may be limited, and in some cases, are donated.

- Must be on-call or participate in an on-call rotation (if available)
Required Physical Activity: The incumbent may spend a majority of time checking on guests, speaking and listening. He or she is expected to travel on a regular (or periodic) basis, as the job requires (see Qualifications above). This position is full time in Mission Academy/downtown location, eligible for benefits, employer pays 85% of medical, also included employer paid life/ADD and disability plan, vacation, paid holidays and sick pay. Dental and vision available at additional cost, voluntary benefits for life/ADD and a 401K retirement plan with employer match.
